Artist Statement
I was born in the Bergen Belsen displaced persons camp, firstborn to Holocaust survivors. I grew up in Ramat Gan , Israel , trapped between the desire to be a true Israeli, a sabra , as my old-timer Israeli friends were, and our home, which constantly reminded me that I was a new immigrant.
My works address the encounter between life and death; life's fragility; the gradually decaying human body; the peeling layers, possibly dead, possibly renewing; the absent family and the great rift—the missing grandparents; the shadow that obfuscates the joie de vivre ; a childhood oscillating between "normalcy" and role reversal; a gut-turning obsession, which is, at the same time, a driving, creative force.
